Healthy Mentality.

Welcome, all to Healthy Mentality, a site dedicated to the mental wellbeing of UNSW students, with a particular focus on those from Hong Kong backgrounds.

In the next few weeks, this webpage will provide viewers with material discussing strategies for improving one’s mental health. The objective of our campaign is to increase awareness of mental health issues amongst Hong Kongers, who struggle to overcome the hardships surrounding university education and maintain a healthy life balance.

Our proactive approach, informed by the insights derived from our primary research, will ultimately determine the effectiveness, and critique the accessibility, of UNSW’s mental health services.

So why adopt such a specific cultural focus? How is the Hong Kongers experience unique?

Our primary research has revealed 36.11% of international Hong Kong students, who experienced mental health issues prior to relocating, did not access support services. This, unfortunately, is reflective of a larger trend, as Hong Kong has only 345 registered psychiatrists amongst a population of 7 million people.

By identifying specific causes of mental illness amongst this demographic, and offering strategies, this campaign will provide an essential service tailored to their common hardships. This site is not exclusive and, therefore, all information discussed is accessible and may be relevant to all students, of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Together, with your support, this campaign has the potential to motivate real change at UNSW. If you would like to share your story with us, please message us through our Facebook and Instagram Page Healthy Mentality.

With love,

The H.M team xx
